How much do missed calls cost your business?

78% of callers won’t leave voicemail. They hang up and call the next business in their search results. Most owners have no idea what that costs them every month, until they do the math.

Plug in your numbers below. The math runs live.

WebDevAuto annual cost reflects the CRM ($249/mo), which carries Ava and missed-call automation; AI call minutes are billed by usage.

Estimates are illustrative only, based on the inputs you provide and an assumed 80% missed-call capture rate from industry averages. Actual results depend on your market, offer, staffing, and execution, and are not a guarantee or projection of revenue.

How the calculator works

The math is straightforward, and deliberately conservative.

We assume only the net lost revenue: what you would have closed minus what voicemail callbacks recover. So the calculator is conservative; the actual loss is usually higher because:

  1. Missed-call customers often become 1-star reviews even if you do call them back
  2. The customers you miss most are the highest-urgency ones (emergencies, after-hours)
  3. Voicemail-to-callback conversion drops sharply in verticals where speed matters (HVAC emergency, legal intake, urgent dental)

For the “recovery” calculation, we assume 80% of currently-missed calls would be captured by an AI receptionist + missed-call SMS. This matches our internal data; some verticals see closer to 90-95%, some closer to 70%, depending on call patterns.

What to do with your number

The math doesn’t lie. Most small-business owners are surprised by their number, in a bad way. That’s the point of running the calculator: make the invisible leak visible, so you can decide what to do about it.

  • Under $20,000: the math may not justify the full stack yet. Start with just the Website ($199/mo) to fix the most obvious gap first.
  • $20,000 to $50,000: the CRM at $249/mo (Ava answers every call, missed-call SMS fires in 30 seconds) pays for itself in roughly 1 to 2 months of recovered calls. AI usage billed on what you use.
  • $50,000 to $100,000: add SEO ($399/mo) to compound the recovery: more inbound calls means more calls Ava can save. Or talk to us about a Custom App build.
  • Over $100,000: multi-location custom is worth a conversation. Talk to us.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the missed-call cost estimate?
It is a directional estimate, not an audit. The math multiplies your missed calls by the share that would have converted and your average ticket. The inputs are yours (miss rate, call volume, average ticket, and answered-vs-voicemail conversion) so the closer those are to reality, the closer the number. Most service businesses are surprised it is conservative.
What is the typical missed-call rate for service businesses?
Most service businesses miss 30 to 40% of inbound calls, during jobs, after hours, at lunch, and when two calls come in at once. The owner usually believes the number is far lower than it is, because missed calls leave no trace unless something is tracking them.
Do I actually lose a customer when I miss their call?
Usually yes. Studies of service-industry callers find that the majority do not leave a voicemail and instead call the next business on the list. A missed call is rarely a deferred customer; it is a customer who just became your competitor's customer.
What does it cost to stop losing those calls?
The CRM is $249/mo: missed-call text-back automation is included, and AI features (texts, follow-ups) are billed by usage, so you only pay for what you actually use. Ava, the AI receptionist, is a separate subscription from $129/mo, with call minutes included in every tier and per-minute billing only past the bundle. No setup fee on either.
How does Ava recover a missed call?
Ava answers calls you would otherwise miss: after hours, during jobs, or when the line is busy. She greets the caller in your business's voice, answers common questions, qualifies the lead, books an appointment on your calendar, and texts the caller a confirmation. You wake up to booked jobs instead of a voicemail box.
